All fused glass pieces are crafted in Gatlinburg, Tennessee by artist Kimberly Bylo. This is a tack fused pair of earrings, meaning all the pieces of glass used to make this piece were heated hot enough to get the glass sticky and bond together in addition to smoothing any sharp edges of the cut glass, but the textural integrity of the glass remains. This type of piece is heated at about 1445 degrees in a kiln. Kimberly uses glass called dichroic glass in a lot of her jewelry. Originally designed by NASA, the dichroic glass is coated with metal oxides and has a beautiful, shimmering iridescent quality. Subtle variations of color can reflect from the glass when light hits it at different angles. This is one of the beautiful and intrinsic properties of this glass. Each piece is individually handcrafted and unique.
